As with other countertop materials, stainless steel offers some options for edge finishes. The most common is a 1.5-inch wrap that mimics the depth of a standard countertop, using an eased square edge. Other choices are a beveled edge, bullnosed or rounded edge, or no metal on the edge at all.
All cutouts, edges, and surfaces must be treated to keep moisture out of the wood. This makes undermount sinks ideal for wood countertops, according to Paul Grothouse of the Grothouse Lumber Company. Drop-in sinks go well with clear-coated or factory-finished countertops but need a flexible sealant beneath the rim.
When they designed the East Malvern Residence, LSA Architects felt that a window backsplash would allow them to maintain an open and bright ambiance throughout. To emphasize that, they also chose white as the main color for the kitchen furnishings.
For greater cost savings, you can opt to purchase a stainless steel sink that comes with an extended drain board on each side. While this is not really a stainless steel countertop it’s a bargain way to add some stainless to your kitchen design for a lot less money.
